The first half of the course covers the fundamental principles and concepts of inorganic chemistry blending facts with theory in application, particularly the various fields of students’ interests and generally to the physical world. Emphasis is given to the correlation of the present concepts of atomic composition and structure with the physical and chemical properties of elements and compounds. Chemical descriptions and categories of different groups of elements and compounds are tackled in the course.

The second half of the course deals with the properties, nomenclature, and general reactions of the different classes of organic compounds and their basic mechanisms.

Laboratory work is an integral part of the course. This involves the performance of exercises (online or face to face) and mostly virtual experiments which acquaint the students with some of the fundamental chemical laboratory operations as the basic concepts and principles of inorganic and organic chemistry are illustrated.
