Apply teamwork and leadership skills, create strategies for supervising, motivating employees, and as a team to achieve the goals and objectives of the hospitality workplace. Graduates will have developed business and management skills applicable to various hospitality sectors including accommodations, food and beverage, guest services and tourism. You will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to assume first-line supervisory and management positions in the evolving fast-paced rewarding world of the hospitality industry.

This capstone course introduces key concepts associated with global tourism and hospitality strategic management and the practical experience of analysis in, and application to, contemporary case studies. The course examines application of tourism and hospitality strategic management concepts and practice to the operation of key organizations and enterprises in various to tourism and hospitality industry sectors. It encourages creative strategic management problem solving in preparation for graduate entry into the workforce. The areas of study in the course develop application of the case method of analysis linked to classical strategic management tools for the international tourism and hospitality management. The course includes presentations from key industry executives with analysis of current strategic management challenges.

The practicum workload is intended to help the students apply their formal education in a real work environment. They are required to undertake 200-hour practicum in government agencies in tourism and hospitality. Close contact with a workplace supervisor /mentor is needed as students are required to produce both a training report, with emphasis on problem-solving and supervisors’ evaluation. Attendance and participation is also required at the practicum seminar held at the start and finish of the successful practicum.
TOUR 199-B
