The first half of the course covers the fundamental principles and concepts of inorganic chemistry blending facts with theory in application, particularly the various fields of students’ interests and generally to the physical world. Emphasis is given to the correlation of the present concepts of atomic composition and structure with the physical and chemical properties of elements and compounds. Chemical descriptions and categories of different groups of elements and compounds are tackled in the course. Descriptions and calculations on solutions and chemical equilibria form part of the concluding topics of the first half.
The second half of the course deals with the properties, nomenclature, general and specific reactions of the different classes of organic compounds and their basic mechanisms.
