Provides an overview of linguistics as a discipline, its development, levels of structure, and its significance to English language teaching (ELT) (CMO 75 s.2017)
This course provides an overview of linguistics as a discipline, its development, levels of structure, and its significance to English language teaching. The pre-service English teachers will recognize the general structural aspect of language (i.e. phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics) and major theories of linguistics in language acquisition, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and other related studies. With this, the course will help future language teachers demonstrate linguistic content knowledge and application across other languages and use English competently to facilitate teaching and learning in the future. (PPST-based, DO 42 s.2017)

The course covers the core investigative processes including, note taking, report writing, case preparation, interviewing and statement taking. They will also learn about such issues as the continuity of evidence; public/private distinctions in the powers of arrest; search and seizure; and the role that forensic science can play in criminal and civil investigations. The students will also be acquainted with the concepts and practices involved in the process of collecting, analyzing, and evaluating intelligence and in managing the intelligence cycle, as well as the use of intelligence processes to support corporate and security investigations, planning, and policy formulation.
